One Hope, One Faith

One Hope

The Bible says there is just one hope (Ephesians 4:4) for the whole world. What is that hope? The kingdom of God on earth. When Jesus tells his disciples how to pray to God he says “…your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6: 9-13) The composer George Frideric Handel quoted from Revelation 11: 15 in his famous Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah - “The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever.”

This hope was revealed to men of faith throughout history. King David of Israel says in Psalm 110: “The LORD (God) says to my lord (Jesus), sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.” Take some time to read this short Psalm and you will see how the ONE HOPE was not just a new testament revelation, but has been evident from the beginning.

One Faith

If there is just one faith why are there so many different religions? Even within the Christian faith there are many different churches to choose from. How is that possible if there is “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” as the apostle Paul states in Ephesians 4:5.

The simple answer is that our hearts and minds can lead us astray. Jesus tells his apostles plainly “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified”, yet when he was arrested, tried and sentenced to death they are surprised and confused. This wasn’t the first time that Jesus had described his death to his followers, but they didn’t want to believe it. They wanted something else to be true, so instead of supporting their leader they scattered from Jesus at his most distressing moment.

We must believe God as he has shown us in his word. We have to compare our faith to what God says. Paul warns us about what can happen if we are not faithful to God’s word-

“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,” (2 Timothy 4:3)

Let God’s word guide you to the ONE FAITH. Keep reading the Bible and you will never be lead astray by the words of men.
